- Lymphatic drainage massage helps to remove the body’s waste products
- It’s a light treatment that can be great for relaxing the nervous system
- Lymphatic drainage is particularly useful before and after surgery
It was great to add another service to my list of qualifications the other week when I passed a course which means I am qualified to offer lymphatic drainage massage at my clinic in Giltbrook and the Magnolia Centre.
Lymphatic drainage massage is used to improve the function of the lymphatic vessels that lead into the circulatory system.
These techniques help to facilitate the removal of the body’s waste products, excess water, bacteria, protein molecules and foreign matter from the tissues via the initial lymph vessels and the venous capillaries.
It’s a light treatment with rhythmic and flowing movement which can be great for relaxing the nervous system, reducing pain and supporting the immune system.
Further benefits
The benefits of a lymphatic drainage massage don’t stop there. It can also help with headaches and sinus congestion, in can aid digestion, reduce stress and anxiety as well as help sprains and strains recover quicker.
It can also benefit edema (swelling in the ankles, feet and legs is often caused by a build-up of fluid in these areas) and lymphoedema.
It has been proven to be particularly useful pre and post-surgery to support tissue congestion and minimise scarring. It can also be used post-surgery following a part mastectomy.
The lymphatic system is the body’s second circulation system and designed to collect waste products from tissues that the blood cannot manage to take. This prevents tissues becoming swollen and clogged. It plays an important role in protecting the body against infection. As the lymph travels via the glands and nodes, it is filtered to remove bacteria and germs which allows antibodies to be produced to fight an infection.
Massage stimulates the flow of lymph, consequently removing toxins and fluids from the area faster.
If you are interested in finding out more about how this can help you recover from one of the issues mentioned above, please get in touch.
